Jim and Claire Harvey have been operating Coneybeare Lodge for 4 years now. Prior to settling down in the beautiful Sea to Sky Country (the Squamish, Whistler & Pemberton corridor) they lived and worked overseas for 10 years doing relief and development work in Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Nicaragua. They have also traveled extensively throughout both the developed and developing world. With all their travels and exposure to so many cultures plus speaking 3 languages, they take great pleasure and interest in getting to know people from around the globe.
They are both avid Outdoor Recreationists practicing mountain biking, hiking, skiing, trail running, snowshoeing , mountaineering and backcountry skiing.
Jims knowledge of the local recreation, geography and natural history is extensive. His passion for it is infectious. He is also well known by most of the recreation groups (the kayakers, mountain bikers, whitewater rafting guides, kite surfers, horse riders, back country skiers, etc.) and the tour organizers. He volunteered for 8 years with the local Trails Society and knows the local trail network inside out. And so does Claire, who occasionally (when time permits) will go along with clients on mountain bike rides.
This local knowledge benefits our clients greatly. Jim & Claire are always willing to spend extra time with guests to suggest outdoor activities suited to the strengths and specific interests of each group. Jim provides detailed maps and we can also provide those little extras to make the hike more enjoyable (day packs, rain coats, hiking poles, water bottles, etc).
Besides running the B&B, Jim designs homes and Claire works as a nurse in the community mental health office.
Jim and Claire have 2 children, Nina and Nico who share their parents passion for the outdoor and living in Squamish. Nina, age 14, is a strong soccer player and a fine musician, playing both the violin and piano. Nico is also a fine athlete and plays soccer, hockey (like all good Canadian kids) and mountain bikes but like most boys his age (12) hes probably strongest on the computer keyboard! Nico also plays guitar.
